Caroline Hornstein Tomić holds a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology from Goethe University Frankfurt/Main. Her professional engagement stretches from academia to the civil and public sectors. Since 2008 she is employed at the Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar in Zagreb (current status: Scientific Advisor / Senior Researcher), and a lecturer at Zagreb University. From 2016 to 2018, she headed the Operative Division at the German Federal Agency for Civic Education and from 2001 to 2005 the country office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. As member of the Advisory Board of ERSTE Foundation from 2005 to 2017, she co-founded the Zagreb based foundation Wissen am Werk / Znanje na djelu in 2014 and acts as Chair of the Management Board. Her publications cover migration and related policies (return/remigration and high-skilled mobility); social transformation and institution-building processes, identity politics, civic education and work-based learning (regional focus: Southeast Europe).
